This Thursday, September 5th, at 15:00 (Moscow time) the lecture "Van der Waals (vdW) interfaces" of D.N. Basov will be given in Room Charpak, at LPEM in hybrid format.
Van der Waals (vdW) interfaces are emerging as a versatile platform to control and investigate electronic, magnetic and optical properties of quantum materials. I will discuss nano-optical studies of ambipolar charge transfer across an interface of vdW materials with different work functions. I will also discuss space-time metrology of tera-Hertz plasmon polaritons in graphene. This novel experimental approach allowed us to directly probe electronic interactions of the Dirac quasiparticles in graphene. I also plan to discuss light-matter interfaces involving excitations in van der Waals materials and photons of the matching color.
